Connected Built Environment – from data to decision making
Juan Tena Florez, Digital Services Director, KEO International Consultants will share an in-depth presentation on why data management is critical through all the phases of the lifecycle, and how data becomes important as it advances and changes its nature. From static data created in the design phase within the models, to dynamic data or simulations in a digital twin integrating GIS and BIM data from both environments.

Construction 4.0: Fiction or Future?
Innovations and technology such as 3D printing, machine learning, and artificial intelligence (AI) make it possible to design and deliver complex assets in new and exciting ways. This panel discussion will highlight what a potential digital construction future could look like, and what challenges would need to be overcome for such an evolution of the industry to become a reality. The session will explore:
Focus Areas:
Breaking old habits and adopting a digital first strategy to project design and delivery
Skilling up staff to take advantage of modern design and delivery technology
Updates to legislation and codes that account for new construction delivery processes and technology
How AI, big data and machine learning can be leveraged to design and project manage standalone assets, infrastructure and/or megaprojects that are significantly more sustainable
Leveraging BIM/Digital Twins/Cloud and digital workflows to drastically improve project stakeholder collaboration and visualisation to deliver better projects and minimse time wastage and costly mistakes
Taking advantage of big data to make data driven decisions across the design and engineering process of assets
Transitioning from using manual labour and heavy machinery to autonomous construction or leveraging offsite manufacturing, modular construction, 3D printing and robotics to deliver assets, reduce costs and minimise waste
Tracking construction progress and preventing rework with drones, 3D scanning and photogrammetry
Leveraging modern construction techniques and advanced construction materials that are sustainable and/or ethically sourced (3D-printed graphene, light-generating concrete, bioplastic, self-healing materials etc) to design and deliver previously unseen structural forms
Jason Saundalkar, Head of Content at Big Project Middle East speaks to Toufic Riman, Country Manager – Gulf at Autodesk about digital transformation, the adoption and usage of technology in the built environment, and what the future may hold.

Enhancing Operational Efficiency with Technology
In the race to unlock a Net Zero future, structures and infrastructure will have to operate as efficiently as possible in the post construction phase. By adopting state of the art building and asset management systems and other technology, owners and operators will be able to run assets more efficiently, make data driven decisions, and be able to respond to issues sooner rather than later. This panel discussion will shine a light on:
Talking points:
What technology can enable owners/operators to have greater visibility of structures and infrastructure, so they can be operated as efficiently as possible? What should all new ‘Smart Building’ be equipped with?
Retrofitting existing assets and infrastructure with technology such as building management and energy management systems to enhance their efficiency and reduce their impact on the environment
Marrying facilities management, BIM/Digital Twins and sensors to generate rich data and enhance building maintenance and operational efficiency
What are the limitations of current building management and energy management systems? How can the current lack of integration and data silo challenges be overcome?
Deploying AI and machine learning to automate certain building management functions and scale up predictive/preventative maintenance
Integrating renewable energy and greywater recycling systems into structures and infrastructure to achieve Net Zero goals

Ineffective information management in the Construction industry: Hype or Reality?
According to industry experts, 95% of all construction projects are over budget, have significant delays, or experience severe quality issues over the project lifecycle. Many of these challenges occur due to a lack of information coordination, poor collaboration, and an overall unstructured way of working. This presentation delves into industry challenges and highlights the critical role of effective information management.

Elevating Safety in the Built Environment
As regional construction projects grow in scale and complexity, and with more daunting environmental conditions to contend with due to global warming, health and safety is more important than ever before. It is vital project stakeholders take steps to ensure that their workforce is kept healthy and safe during the delivery of projects, and that jobsites are safer environments as a whole. This panel discussion will explore:
Focus Areas:
Key safety challenges that construction stakeholders must address on regional projects
The importance of marrying safety culture, positive reinforcement and technology
Leveraging wearable devices to track staff health and safety in real-time
Deploying drones to enhance jobsite management and mitigate risks, particular those associated with inspections in challenging areas of a project and/or hazard detection
Leveraging IoT to detect risky behaviour or dangerous situations on sites with the aim of preventing accidents and injuries
The usage of specialised robots to take on dangerous tasks
Boosting worker training and safety by using immersive virtual reality (VR) technology
Taking advantage of augmented reality (AR) devices to enhance preplanning and highlight potential danger areas on projects
